Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant Menu

We eat a lot of Mexican food, and when we crave authentic-feeling Mexican in Rapid City, well, our favorite is Ixtapa. Its always delicious, and they have horchata. That last one is more than enough to bring me in every time, as I am a horchata-guzzling fiend. Today I discovered something new about Ixtapa! You can order *take-out* at Ixtapa. Hurray! This is good because it was a special birthday but schedules did not allow us to go have a sit-down meal at a restaurant. Thank good ness for takeout! Even though it was Cinco de Mayo and it was the busiest I have ever seen Ixtapa at lunchtime, my take-out order was within a few minutes of on-time and without too much frazzled nerves. So thanks, Ixtapa! Now, if Ixtapa only had a menu online somewhere to expedite the ordering of takeout Mexican, that could really help...

We had pork qasadillas and chicken enchiladas. Both very good, flavorful, and fresh. Chips and salsa were great too. Nice Mexican in the heart of Rapid City. We'll be back.

Found a plastic rapper in my carne asada. The food was good until the plastic rapper was found within my meal. So arises the question; how much do they properly handle food? It is apparent that they don't watch what exactly is going into what they're cooking. I will never return to this restaurant.

Thought we would try since it was close to where we were. Food was good but hard to enjoy after finding 2 toothpicks in our chips.

We had a very nice meal in clean surroundings with a friendly waiter. The service was excellent. The chips were fresh tasting and crisp. The bean dip was tasty and creamy. Unfortunately, the salsa tasted watery. I had chicken enchilada suiza (green sauce). The shredded chicken was plentiful and tender, though it could have use more seasoning. The green sauce was good as were the retried beans and rice that accompanied the meal.

The food here is not real authentic Mexican but also not real Tex-Mex or gringoed out. It's somewhere in the middle. Pretty ok for SoDak. Better than the Mexican restaurant in Mitchell in my opinion. This is not a first date kind of place. #1. The plates are huge so your girl will feel like a pig if she eats half her food. #2. The Mexican atmosphere is a little too real--you might have to swat a couple flies like we did. #3. A Mexican pueblo might churn inside of you after you eat and then you'll have to poop it out. #4. Your girl will get sassy and gassy. Moral of the story: this is "we're living together" material, don't bring anyone fancy you want to impress. Jajaja--err---I mean "HAHAHA" If you want to die ask your waiter for the spicy salsa. It's red and it will make you cry tears of fire and joy. Mix a spoonful of it in to your regular salsa for a kick. Also, avoid the ground meat. Not because it's bad, but because the other options are WAY tastier. Service is great! But boo to serving wine based margaritas. Wine? So strange. I'm not a drunk but that ain't a margarita! Where's the tequila?

Of the Mexican food I've had in Rapid City, this is the best so far. I felt like I was right back in my hometown in California, where the Mexican food is delicious and plentiful. The ambience is the only reason I gave four stars instead of five. This place feels more like a casual, mom and pop Mexican restaurant. However, that's okay, because the food is fantastic, the portions are huge, and the price is right.

Went here while on vacation in the Rapid City area. Just ok, nothing to write home about. So-so service, food was decent, prices were about what you'd expect. Was a little turned off by all of the dead flies in the windowsills, and flies buzzing around. Apparently they don't believe in air conditioning, either. Cleanliness could be better.

My only beef with this place is that we found it on vacation and it isn't located in my state. We were searching Mexican restaurants on my Kindle trying to find a good one to eat at, and we almost passed this one by because there weren't many reviews and most of what is in Rapid is fast food Mexican, which we didn't want. I am so relieved we didn't. The decor is pretty typical. The waiter kept calling my husband "Amigo" but me "Ma'am". I guess someone forgot to tell him no woman wants to be a ma'am! Lucky for him the food was so yummy I was able to ditch the ma'am slight. On the bright side, he was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were refilled before they were even half gone. The rice was very authentic. I have only had rice like that at 2 other Mexican restaurants and made by my cousin's Mexican wife. I've been told it is difficult to master, and that's the reason why. My favorite restaurant, in my town, sometimes has trouble as new cook's have difficulty getting it right. It was excellent. I am not a bean fan at all, but both of my kids (one of which hates everything) were moaning how good it was and my husband couldn't stop raving that it was the best beans he's ever had. My enchiladas were delicious, and they even came with sour cream (something the Mexican places here in MT are too cheap to do without paying extra)! My husband had the chile relleno that was mentioned in another review and he also noted how different he is. He thought it was made with egg, instead of how he's had them made before (this is a side note, not anything I've ever had myself). The salsa isn't very thick, but it is very good. They bring complimentary chips along with it and a bean dip--which was a huge hit with my family. In closing...AWESOME restaurant. I wish it was located near us. If we ever find ourselves in Rapid City again, I will definitely go back. Hands down the best Mexican place I've eaten at--although only slightly better than my favorite restaurant here at home. The beans sealed the deal! Happy eating, Rapid City!

Food is great. Priced fine. Service can be slow. Atmosphere is... well it reminds me of a Mexican restaurant I guess! There has also been crying children two out of my three visits. My favorite Mexican place in Rapid City so far.

I've been here twice now and have enjoyed my experience both times. The restaurant is clean, the servers are friendly (though a bit overtaxed when I was there--I made sure to order a water with my other beverage just in case I didn't get a refill, which turned out to be fortuitous). There were a lot of kids there both times I was, and it was a good atmosphere for them. I had the cheese and onion enchiladas both times and enjoyed them a lot, though I would have loved to have some vegetables on the platter in some form other than refried beans. My 4 companions also enjoyed their meals, and their carne asada got a great review from someone who is a carne asada fanatic. I loved their EXTREMELY fresh salsa, obviously home made with plenty of fresh cilantro, and was happy to get a complimentary cup of refried beans as an alternative dip for the free, hot chips. My one warning for the food is this: if you're looking for a chile relleno that is a breaded, cheese-stuffed pepper, you will not get it. You will get an omelet that has mostly the same ingredients. This is clearly stated on the "definitions" list, however, so if you pay attention, you'll figure it out for yourself. I will definitely be going back when I start craving Mexican. I haven't tried their margaritas yet and am looking forward to it!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
